Building a Biblical Marriage

What is Marriage

Marriage is one of God’s most sacred institutions. It is a covenant relationship designed to reflect His love, faithfulness, and unity with His people. A biblical marriage is not merely a legal agreement. It is a spiritual covenant rooted in God’s design for companionship, mutual service, and holiness.

God calls husbands and wives to pursue oneness through grace, humility, and lifelong commitment. In every season, marriage displays the beauty of two people becoming one through God’s power and purpose.

The Importance from a
Biblical Perspective

God created marriage to display the gospel. In Ephesians 5, the relationship between husband and wife mirrors Christ’s selfless love for His Church. Building a biblical marriage means pursuing humility, forgiveness, and lifelong faithfulness under God’s authority. In a culture that often redefines marriage, the church must model what it means to love faithfully, lead sacrificially, and serve one another in Christ-centered unity.

Key Scriptures:
  • Genesis 2:24 – “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
  • Ephesians 5:22–33 – The marriage relationship as a reflection of Christ and the Church.
  • 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 – The defining marks of love in marriage.
  • Hebrews 13:4 – “Let marriage be held in honor among all…”
